The term that best describes a society of scholars, scientists, and artists in the context of higher education is "Academy." This term historically refers to institutions dedicated to the advancement of knowledge in various fields, often emphasizing research and scholarship. Academies are typically characterized by their role in fostering intellectual growth and collaboration among professionals and academics.

In this context, an academy serves as a collective space where individuals engage in scholarly activities, share research, and contribute to the broader academic and cultural discourse. This distinguishes it from other terms; for instance, while a university encompasses a broader range of academic institutions that offer various degrees and programs, an academy is more focused on specific disciplines and scholarly pursuits.

Colleges and institutes may also contribute to higher education but do not inherently embody the same collective scholarly community as an academy does. Colleges often refer to undergraduate institutions, and institutes might focus on specialized training or research, which might not encompass the full breadth of scholarly and artistic engagement that an academy represents.
